I tried to use my clippers today for a haircut, but forgot to look at whether they will accept 240 volts. It turns out that they don't.
All the power in my apartment disappeared with a loud pop. As it was just getting dark out I hurried up and searched for the breaker panel. Found the one fuse for the place, so everything came back on -except for the bathroom lights. Did I fry the electricity in there?
So I guess I should get a hold of the guy who maintains the building. The last time I needed him (for a key to the roof on behalf of the internet installation), Zsuzsanna the property manager hung up the phone with him with her eyes bugging out, "Well that wasn't the most pleasant man!"

Hi, your observations are very enjoyable. Have you listed Falk Miksa St. on your list of places to see? Wy. mom
It's easy to forget about the power difference. Oz is 240 volts. Once I plugged in a U.S. hair straightener in Oz but forgot to put the converter on to make it go to 110 volts. The plastic parts of the straightener melted in about 4 minutes! The whole things was a melted mess, and subsequently ruined. However, the lights DID stay on in the house....only to show my wavey hair in the mirror!
Falk Miksa St. is about a kilometer away. Why do you ask, anonymous?
bb, you mean your hair is straight because of an iron?? I hope you weren't using it while it was disintegrating!
